Speaking & Workshops

Eric and Yvette at the InSight Design Conference in Hammond, Indiana
“We want to not only inspire but most importantly leave you with useful tools and resources so you can practice sustainable design today.”
We have traveled the world encouraging others to design for sustainability. We have spoken at professional and academic design conferences (AIGA, UCDA, Cumulus), moderated panel discussions, led workshops with design students and practitioners, and visited design classrooms in-person and virtually. Our main speaking topics are:
- Sustainable design and systems thinking for the design practitioner
- Teaching sustainable design and systems thinking for the design educator
- Invited undergraduate and graduate design critic and provocateur
We love to share our stories, knowledge, and passion for responsible design through our lectures and workshops, and we’d love to hear from you!
Our Lectures
Designing in the Climate Crisis 101
Our civilization stands at a tipping point, where we can choose to stay on the same path toward climate disaster or embrace hope, rejecting despair, to reshape our future. This talk will educate creatives about the risks of inaction surrounding climate change and in turn, empower them to take action through regenerative design resources and strategies. (Applicable to both academic and practitioner audiences)
Design to Renourish – Sustainable Design for Graphic Designers
Based on our 2017 book of the same name, this lecture provides you with basic strategies, tools, and resources for you to begin designing in your studio sustainability today! (Geared toward practitioner audiences)
Our Workshops
Systems Thinking for Designers 101
This 90-minute workshop will give you the basics to use systems thinking in your studio or classroom through a four-step design process that includes virtual hands-on exercises to get you started today.
Wait, what is systems thinking? Systems thinking in design should result in a usable and beautiful object or service that improves not only our quality of life but nature as well (reparations for nature). Systems thinking is the way forward for designers to continue their practice and renourish what humanity has taken away from (and damaged) the planet, and, in turn, drawdown our global carbon emissions. (Applicable to both academic and practitioner audiences)
